Mr. Chan Hung

Mr. Chan Hung graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in China Studies from Hong Kong Baptist College in 1992 and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education at HKBU in 1996. He is Founder of Principal Chan Free Tutorial World and held a number of esteemed positions in the education field, including founder and principal of a secondary school under the Direct Subsidy Scheme, Secretary of the Hong Kong Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council, and Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Private Schools Association.

In 2009, Mr Chan felt that the interests of underprivileged children were being neglected under the Hong Kong education system so he abruptly quit his job as principal of a secondary school to establish Principal Chan Free Tutorial World which provides free tutorial services and other free educational support, such as courses for talented children and pre-school playgroup and learning courses, for underprivileged children. He was presented with the Eighth Compassion Award by the HK & Macau Taiwanese Charity Fund Limited and Leader of the Year 2014 Award (Education and Technology and Professions category) by the Sing Tao News Corporation.

Mr. Chan is a famous children’s fiction writer in Hong Kong. His novel Youth is found in basketballs won the top prize in the Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature (children and youth literature category). He is also a columnist for newspapers and gives seminars in secondary and primary schools and hosts writing workshops. Mr. Chan is a member of the Hong Kong Chinese Literature Micro Novel Research Society, Secretary of the World Chinese Literature Micro Novel Society, a member of the Hong Kong Writers’ Association and the Hong Kong Children’s Arts Society, and Chief Editor of the adolescent arts magazine The new teenager bi-monthly.
