Energising and Magical Poon Choi Dinner

Event Information

The Energising and Magical Poon Choi Dinner held in the evening of 25 October 2014 impressed alumni, guests and the University’s staff and management with cosy ambience, energetic lion dance and wonderful magic show.  The Dinner broke record with over 500 participants sitting at 45 tables which occupied the entire level of the 3/F Podium of the Academic and Administration Building.

The dinner started with rounds of cheering from the floor when the masters of ceremonies alumnus Timothy Lam and alumna Wendy Tse called out the faculties and schools.  After the eye-dotting ceremony officiated by President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Albert S. C. Chan and Vice-President (Research and Development) Prof. Rick Wong, all audience were captivated by the vivid lion dance performance and on-stage toasting led by over 20 senior management, deans and heads of academic departments and special guests including Honorary University Fellows So Chung-ping, James Tsien, Wong Nga-chung, Stephen Yau and awardees of Distinguished Alumni Award Francis Mak and Marianna Tsang, to name but a few.

Attending guests were also amused with the wonderful magic show performed by Year 3 student Ko Kong-ling.  The atmosphere of the dinner peaked when the University management including President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Albert S. C. Chan, Vice-President (Research and Development) Prof. Rick Wong, Associate Vice-President Prof. Frank Fu gave a toast to every table.  The warm toasting was filled not with wine, but with friendship and laughter.  The dinner ended on a happy note when the University management, alumnus Francis Mak and presidents of various alumni associations including alumnus Tyrone Siu of HKBU Alumni Association, alumna Marianna Tsang of HKBU Century Club, alumnus Ronald Wong of Baptist Chemists, alumnus Daniel Mui of Biology Alumni Association, alumnus Raymond Hayat of MBA and MScBM Alumni Association, alumnus Bernard Wu of School of Business Alumni Association, alumnus Stephen Yau of Social Work Alumni Association and alumna Lee Yin-heung of Sport and Recreation Leadership Alumni Association sang a finale song together on stage.
