Mr. Ronnie Cheng Kay-yen

Mr. Ronnie Cheng is currently Headmaster of Diocesan Boys’ School. He obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education at Hong Kong Baptist University. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Baptist University in the US, a Master’s degree in Music from The University of Illinois and a Master’s degree in Education from The University of Hong Kong.

Mr. Cheng upholds his belief in developing holistic excellence built upon the Christian faith and nurturing brilliant students by discovering their unique calling. He advocates the combining of international and local pedagogies to lead students to develop initiatives with focus on leadership training, life planning, Christian faith and character building.

Before promotion to headship, Mr. Cheng taught English and Music. Under his leadership in the capacity of Head of Music, the school ensembles won international accolades including world championships and artistic awards.

Mr. Cheng serves as Member of the Department of Education Studies Advisory Committee of HKBU, Chairman of the Grant Schools Council, Council Member of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Council Member of Diocesan Girls’ School, Member of Hong Kong Jockey Club Music Children Steering Committee, Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Tennis Association and Steering Committee Member of Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme. In 2017, Mr. Cheng was awarded the Civic Leadership Award by the Changing Young Lives Foundation and the Men of Hope Award by the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation. In recognition of his contribution to the field of education, Mr. Cheng was acknowledged as one of the top 50 educators in the world and awarded the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize.
