HKBU Homecoming Day - HKBU “Good Old Days” Alumni Dinner (28 Oct 2013)

Event Information

Themed “Good Old Days at HKBU”, this year’s Homecoming Day was truly a smashing success and a memorable event to remember. Alumni participating in Homecoming Day 2013 held from 26 to 28 October were infused with friendship and fun.  An array of events has been showcased within these three days to bring a home-sweet-home atmosphere to all alumni.

As a grand finale of Homecoming Day, the Alumni Dinner was held at the Banqueting House at MegaBox, Kowloon Bay on 28 October 2013. Over 380 alumni and friends celebrated the 80th Birthday of President Emeritus Dr. Daniel Tse Chi-wai. No words than heart-warming and splendid can better describe the dinner which celebrated long-standing alumni friendship. Students from HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School staged an exhilarating dance performance to kick-start the celebratory dinner.

Under rounds of applause and a birthday song sung by over 380 participants of the dinner, Dr. Daniel and Mrs. Kitty Tse cut the birthday cake accompanied by Prof. Albert S.C. Chan and Mrs. Mabel Chan.  Prof. Chan presented an artifact engraved with a Chinese acrostic written by himself to Dr. Tse as a birthday gift.  As a gesture of gratitude, Dr. Tse had written a poem for the University and both poems written by Dr. Tse and Prof. Chan were printed on photo jackets given to all the attending guests as souvenir.

Another highlight of the dinner was the Omega gold watch presentation by Dr. Tse to Prof. Chan.  The watch, which was a precious gift for Dr. Tse from all academic staff of the then Hong Kong Baptist College 42 years ago, was donated in March 2013 by Dr. Tse to HKBU for fundraising.  In response to Dr. Tse’s invitation, six alumni namely Delia Chan Wai-sheung, Dickson Shang Tat-yan, Wong Nga-chung, Wu Po-kung, William Leung Wing-cheung and Marianna Tsang Wai-chun generously donated a total of $1.5 million to their alma mater.  As a token of appreciation, these donors were presented with calligraphy of a poem written by Dr. Tse.

A special video featuring the history of Shiu Pong Hall (former residence of Dr. Daniel Tse and Mrs. Kitty Tse) and sharing of Dr. Tse was shown which brought touching memories for all the guests.  The ambience of the dinner climaxed when Dr. and Mrs. Tse toasted around tables together with the senior management of the University.  The dinner ended on a perfect note when the emcees alumnus Francis Mak and alumna Rebecca Chan together with a group of alumni led the house to sing a song that signifies friendship.
