HKBU Century Club Stages Drama Performance Malan Flower Blooms with HKBU Alumni Theatre and Co-organises a Seminar with HKBU Department of Physics

HKBU Century Club (The Club) and HKBU Alumni Theatre were invited by Hong Kong Coalition to produce and perform a drama Malan Flower Blooms, which was successfully staged from 4 to 6 October at the Jockey Club Auditorium, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The drama depicts the story of Mr Deng Jiaxian, a Chinese theoretical physicist and nuclear physicist named as the “Patron of the Two Bombs and One Star” by the Chinese government.

The premiere of the show was held on 4 October. The show was graced by the presence of Mr Tam Yiu-chung, Secretary-General of Hong Kong Coalition; alumnus Professor Simon Ho (Sociology), President of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong; senior management of HKBU including Mr Paul Poon, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU; Professor Martin Wong, Provost; Dr Albert Chau; Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), and Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Honorary University Fellows including alumni Professor James Tsien (Business Management), Professor Sunny Wong (Business Management) and Wong Nga-chung (Business Management); Professor Nagar Lai, Entrepreneur Committee member of HKBU Foundation; alumna Dr Marianna Tsang (Secretarial Management), Patron and President of the Club; alumnus Kent Tsui (Communication), Past President/Ex-officio Director of the Club; alumna Yoki Chan (Secretarial Management), Vice-President of the Club; alumnus Ip Ka-po (Communication), Vice-President of the Club; alumna Agnes Wong (Business Management), Patron and Vice-President of the Club; alumna Esther Wong (Geography; Social Work), Patron and Vice-President of the Club; alumnus William Lu (Communication), Treasurer of the Club; Directors of the Club including alumnus Samuel Lau (Economics), alumna Jeanny Ng (Translation) and alumnus Dr Paul Yu (Communication), and a number of alumni, HKBU staff and guests.

To further explore the theme of the drama, the Club also co-organised a seminar titled “Explore the importance of energy development to current and future society” with the Department of Physics on 22 November, aiming to deepen participants’ understanding of the importance of energy plays in our everyday lives and society. Alumnus Dr Martin Ma (Green Energy and Smart Technology), Lecturer of the Department of Physics, served as the keynote speaker and shared insights into current and prospective developments in green energy within China, covering topics such as solar energy, wind energy, and hydrogen energy.
