"Carbon Minus 2010" Promotes Low-Carbon Lifestyle

The Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre of HKBU launched the "Carbon Minus 2010" programme on 24 July 2010, encouraging the public to join hands in adopting a low-carbon lifestyle for the betterment of Hong Kong.

Attending the launch ceremony were Mr. Elvis Au, Acting Deputy Director of Environmental Protection of the Environmental Protection Department; Mr. Lam Chiu-ying, Former Director of the Hong Kong Observatory; Mrs. Louisa Chan, General Manager of Amway Hong Kong Limited and Prof. Jonathan Wong, Director of the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre and Professor of Biology at HKBU.

At the launch ceremony, activities such as speeches, performances and games were organised to promote green living. In addition, Prof. Jonathan Wong shared the major findings of a survey on the habits of Hong Kong people that lead to increased carbon emissions. Prof. Jonathan Wong revealed the top 10 habits that are bad for the environment and appealed to the citizens not to compromise on reducing carbon emissions for the sake of convenience. He also said he expected the government to implement relevant policies and enhance public education to make Hong Kong a green and low-carbon city.
