HKBU Alumni Association of Australia Organises Annual General Meeting cum Dinner Gathering in Celebration of its 14th Anniversary

On 30 September, HKBU Alumni Association of Australia (HKBUAA of Australia) organised an Annual General Meeting cum Dinner Gathering at The Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant in Sydney to celebrate the 14th Anniversary of the Association.

The gathering was well attended by alumni and their family members, including President Sidney Cheng (Communication) and his spouse, Vice-President Lawrence Chan (Communication) and his spouse, Professor Yip Kam-shing (Social Work) and his spouse, Peggy Siu (Secretarial Management) and her husband Andrew Chan, Peter Chu (Chemistry) and his spouse, Henie Chu (Communication/Secretarial Management), Clara Cheng (Social Work), Keith Chow (Sociology), Richard Lam (Communication) and his spouse Mabel Lam, Leung Ting-chun (Civil Engineering) and his spouse Chan Bun-yee (Civil Engineering), Allan Chu (Accounting) and his spouse, Alice Lai (Business Administration), Nicole Wong (Secretarial Management), as well as Professor Edward Fung, the former Head of Department of History of HKBU and his spouse, and Mr Bosco Lau, Honorary President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Australia) Association, and his spouse. Other friends of the Association also attended to grace the event.

Vice-President alumnus Lawrence Chan was the emcee of the event. In his opening remarks, President alumnus Sidney Cheng warmly welcomed all participants and thanked them for attending the event which was also held to celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Association. President Cheng also gave a brief report on the works and activities of the Association. Over the years, HKBUAA of Australia has been striving to unite alumni in Australia and strengthen its ties with their alma mater. The Association regularly organises a variety of activities, such as welcoming the visit of Presidents and Vice-Presidents of HKBU to Sydney, providing assistance to the HKBU Choir’s tour concert in Australia, receiving HKBU students who have joined the Metropolitan Attachment Programme, as well as organising numerous gatherings, seminars, fundraising and outdoor activities. All activities have received overwhelming support from alumni. President Cheng also presented the President’s Report and Treasurer’s Report at the Annual General Meeting, which were unanimously adopted by members of the Association.

The Association would like to invite alumni, retired and former academic and administrative staff of the University, who are now residing in Australia, to join the Association as members and participate in its events.
