HKBU Members Recognised for Eminent Contribution to Society

More than 10 members of the HKBU family were honoured by the Hong Kong SAR Government for their dedicated service to the community. They act as outstanding role models for the University community through their excellent performance in both their professional roles as well as through community service.
Dr. Victor Fung Kwok-king, Honorary Doctor of Business Administration, Dr. Tin Ka-ping, Honorary Doctor of Social Sciences, and Dr. Stanley Ho, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation, have been awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal. Dr. Fung was recognised for his dedicated and distinguished public service, particularly his impressive performance as the Chairman of the Airport Authority while Dr. Tin was honoured for his significant contribution to charity and community service in donating to various charitable causes over the past decades. Dr. Ho was recognised for his outstanding contribution to charity and community service. He has made generous donations to various charitable organisations and tertiary education institutions in Hong Kong.
Mr. Victor Hui Chun-fui, Director of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation, was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in recognition of his dedicated contribution to the promotion and development of sports in Hong Kong over 40 years.
Dr. John Woo, Honorary Doctor of Social Sciences, was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in recognition of his outstanding achievements in both the local and international film industries as well as his contribution to the development of Hong Kong films and Chinese cinema.
Mr. Tommy Li, Senior Member of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation; Dr. Alice T.H. W. Chiu, Member of the Board of Governors of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation; Mr. David Ho Chi-ho and Dr. John Lee Sam-yuen, both Honorary Court members; and Mr. Chan King-cheung, member of the Advisory Committee of the School of Communication, were awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in recognition of their valuable contributions in various areas.
A number of HKBU alumni were also honoured. Biology alumnus Dr. Raymond Wong Sze-chung was awarded the Medal of Honour for his valuable contribution to the development of the agricultural industry in Hong Kong. Mr. John Wong Chung, BBA alumnus, was awarded the Chief Executive's Commendation for Community Service. Mr. Hui Wai-shing, History and Geography alumnus, Mrs. Yolanda Tong Lee Yan-yan, Sociology alumna, and Mr. Willy Ngai Kwok-wai, Communication alumnus, were awarded the Chief Executive's Commendation for Government/Public Service in recognition of their outstanding social service.
Dr. David Wong Yau-kar, Council and Court member, Mr. Joseph Yam Chi-kwong, honorary professor of the School of Business, and Dr. Royce Yuen Man-chun, Communication alumnus, have been appointed Justices of the Peace.
Prof. Albert S C Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the award recipients. He said: "The honours signify that the effort and contribution of HKBU members in various fields have won wide recognition from the community. This not only endorses our Whole Person Education ethos but is also a great encouragement to all members of the HKBU family."
