A Reception in Honor of Dr. Mok Man Hung Endowed Professorship in Chemistry

President Prof. Roland Chin hosted a Reception on 30 December 2020 in honor of Dr. Mok Man Hung Endowed Professorship in Chemistry, and to acknowledge the tremendous contributions of the supporters of this endowed professorship. During the Reception, President Chin also conveyed his congratulation to Prof. Gary Wong on his appointment to this endowed professorship. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Reception was held on campus as well as online, and both were well attended by supporters, the University management and faculty members of the Department of Chemistry.
At the Reception, Prof. Gary Wong shared his achievements in research and his aspirations to teaching and research excellence. Alumni supporters Dr. Eddie Chui (Chemistry), Founding President of the alumni association Baptist Chemists and Recipient of HKBU Distinguished Alumni Award, and Chris Yu (Chemistry), Vice-Chairman of Baptist Chemists, shared their joy and gratification in witnessing the establishment of the endowed professorship which pays tribute to the late Dr. Mok, the beloved teacher and mentor of alumni of the Chemistry Department, for his tremendous contributions made to the University in his various capacities.
In 2016, the University launched a fundraising project that aimed at raising a total of HK$10 million for the setting up of an endowed professorship in honour of the late Dr. Mok Man Hung. The distinguished position aims at recruiting and retaining the highest-quality scholar in the field, who will engage in advance research that will benefit humankind. Thanks to the collective efforts of alumni, supporters and staff members, the fundraising target was reached in 2020. Named “Dr. Mok Man Hung Endowed Professorship in Chemistry”, this prestigious position, after a vigorous selection process, was bestowed upon Prof. Gary Wong, Head of Department of Chemistry of HKBU.
