Alumni Online Gatherings with President Chin (California/ British Columbia/Southeast Asia and Beijing/Greater Bay Area/Shanghai)

Event Information

Five online gatherings, jointly organised by the Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) and various overseas Alumni Associations (including HKBU Alumni Association of Australia, HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario, HKBU Alumni Association of Southern California, HKBU Alumni Association of Macau, HKBU Alumni Association of Beijing, HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area and HKBU Alumni Association of Shanghai), were successfully held in November and December 2020. The main purpose of these online gatherings is to allow overseas alumni to meet with President Prof. Roland Chin, before his retirement by the end of 2020. We have attracted around 400 alumni to participate in these gatherings.

On 14 December 2020, the online gathering attracted around 50 guests and alumni residing in California, British Columbia and Southeast Asia to engage in a dialogue with President Chin. The alumni gathering was graced by the presence of President Chin and Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) Dr. Albert Chau, with Director of Alumni Affairs Dr. Melanie Lee also present to serve as moderator. At the gathering, President of HKBU Alumni Association of Southern California alumna Joanna Or, also shared with alumni the latest developments of the Association.

Meanwhile, over 100 alumni residing in various cities of China including Beijing, Greater Bay Area and Shanghai participated in another online gathering on 17 December 2020. The gathering, held via ZOOM, was graced by the presence of President Chin, Vice-President (Research and Development) Prof. Guo Yike, Dr. Albert Chau, Dr. Melanie Lee, Chairman of Alumni Committee of HKBU Foundation alumnus Prof. Sunny Wong (Business Management), members of Alumni Committee of HKBU Foundation alumnus Wong Nga-chung (Business Management), President of HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area (GBAAA) alumnus Dr. Vincent Ho (Communication), Vice-President of HKBU Alumni Association of Beijing (BJAA) alumnus Frank Feng (Communication), Vice-President of GBAAA alumna Elise Tse (Accounting), Director of GBAAA alumnus Sunny Wan (Physical Education & Recreation Management) and alumna Caca Lam (Business Administration) in person on HKBU campus, and President of BJAA alumna Li Yuan (Applied Biology) and President of HKBU Alumni Association of Shanghai (SHAA) alumnus Gilman Too (Communication), Founding President of SHAA alumnus Yee Lam (Communication) joined the gathering via ZOOM. Alumni Li Yuan, Vincent and Gilman also shared with participants the development of their respective Alumni Associations and expressed their gratitude to President Chin for his kind support in the establishment of these three alumni associations. They also took the opportunity to reminisce about the precious and joyful memories of President Chin’s various visits to China from 2017 to 2020.

During these online gatherings, alumni not only provided their insights into the development of the University but also had a nice chat with President Chin. They also took the opportunity to bid farewell to President Chin, thanking him for his significant contributions to the University over the past five years and extending their best wishes to him for a happy retirement. In the meantime, President Chin expressed his deep appreciation to alumni for their staunch support for the University in the past years.
