Event Information

The English Language and Literature Alumni Association (ELLAA) held a Homecoming Dinner with the theme "Pass It On" on 4 June 2011. Over 50 alumni, teachers and students joined this kick-off event of the newly founded ELLAA.

"Pass It On" signifies the aspiration of ELLAA to pass on the Department's unique qualities and team spirit year after year. Alumna Ms. Grace Cheng Wai-yan, Chairperson of ELLAA, shared that the Committee is committed to contributing to the Department and strengthening the connection between alumni. Prof. Clayton George MacKenzie, Head of the Department, expressed his thanks to the ELLAA's founding committee for bringing alumni of the English Department together.

The Association was honoured to have alumnus Mr. William Leung Wing-cheung, who is currently the Executive Director and Head of Personal Banking of Hang Seng Bank Limited, sharing his insights on the occasion. "The Association can think of ways to provide different kinds of support to students so as to enhance their sense of belonging to the Association, Department and the University."

During the dinner, Bilingual Improv Brigade (BIB), a group of talented students and alumni led by Dr. Wee Lian-hee, Associate Professor of the Department, performed a stand-up comedy show. Participants also took the opportunity to take photos and rekindle friendships. The dinner ended with laughter and smiling faces.
