Distinguished Alumni Share Experience in Banking Profession at HKBU 55th Anniversary Alumni Sharing Forum

To celebrate its 55th Anniversary, the University held the first Alumni Sharing Forum last night (14 March 2011). Four eminent alumni, who now hold key positions in renowned international banks, were invited to share their journeys to success and valuable experience with students and alumni. Speaking at the forum were Mr. William Leung Wing-cheung, Executive Director and Head of Personal Banking, Hang Seng Bank Limited (English Language and Literature); Mr. Dickson Shang Tat-yan, Executive Director, HSBC Broking Services (Asia) Limited (Business Management); Dr. Cartier Lam Chi-man, Deputy Chief Executive, Bank of East Asia (China) Limited (Geography); and Mr. Ip Kai-ming, Executive Director and General Manager, Luso International Banking Limited (Macau) (Corporate Governance and Directorship).

At the forum, Mr. William Leung Wing-cheung introduced the entry requirements for the banking profession and pointed out that a good working attitude was the most important quality in an employee. Mr. Dickson Shang Tat-yan shared the future opportunities and challenges facing the financial industry in Hong Kong, and reminded students to continuously upgrade their skill set. Dr. Cartier Lam Chi-man talked about the latest economic developments on the Mainland and said he hoped those heading there to work had updated themselves on the market and culture of the country and had learnt fluent Putonghua as well as simplified Chinese characters. Mr. Ip Kai-ming elaborated on the division of labour and structure of a bank, and encouraged students to be proactive and attentive at work.
