Event Information

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) organized a public lecture on “Augmented Reality, Creativity and the Arts” in collaboration with ETH Zurich on campus on 23 October 2017 as one of the featured events under the Zurich meets Hong Kong – A Festival Of Two Cities programme.

An audience of hundreds including artists and designers, media and arts professionals, educationists, museum specialists, HKBU students, alumni and staff, as well as senior management of the University attended the lecture.

At his welcoming remarks, Prof Roland T. Chin addressed that HKBU is a Liberal Arts University strong in creative media. Our students, graduates as well as our faculty members in the Academy of Visual Arts, Academy of Film and Music Department, for example, have made notable achievements and are well recognized in the industry. So, media arts or creative media has always been one of the flagships and defining characters for HKBU. HKBU is therefore the ideal “stage” for this public lecture.

Dr. Bryan Chung Wai Ching, an interactive media artist and Associate Professor of the Academy of Visual Arts, HKBU, on the other hand, contrasted virtual reality and augmented reality concepts in the creative arts, including film and advertising, and showcased locally developed AR applications.

The lecture was concluded by a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), HKBU. Two panel members Prof. Emilie Yeh Yueh Yu, Lam Wong Yiu Wah Chair Professor of Visual Studies, Department of Visual Studies, Lingnan University and Professor of the Academy of Film, HKBU and Mr. Peter Benz, Associate Professor of the Academy of Visual Arts, HKBU joined the speakers to further discuss the interplay of technology and art.
