Event Information

On 4 November 2016, the University launched an Alumni Tree Naming Campaign to raise funds for the first-generation university students. With the generous support of many alumni and alumni associations, a total of 15 selected trees on campus were successfully named. On 18 May 2017, an Alumni Tree Naming Ceremony was held to express heartfelt gratitude to the alumni supporters. Around 100 alumni and guests attended the ceremony to witness the naming of the Alumni Trees.

In his welcoming speech, President Chin thanked the alumni for their generous contribution and commitment to their alma mater. He said that each alumni tree symbolised the close connection linking students, alumni supporters and HKBU together. With the staunch support from alumni, hundreds of first-generation university students will be provided with financial support, enabling them to engage in activities that will enrich their knowledge as well as their personal and career development.

As a token of appreciation, customised souvenirs in the form of photo paintings of their named trees were presented to the alumni supporters by President Chin and Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) at the Ceremony. In addition, alumni supporters also received on site specially designed coasters which were hand-made by a student volunteer team called “A Wooden Pine”.

It is worth to mention, the tree naming has many touching stories behind. Some supporters were keen to leave their marks on campus because they met their better half at the University; some named a tree in memory of their beloved ones; some remarked it as a celebration of friendship gained during their studies at HKBU, while some alumni associations and groups motivated their members and fellows to give back to their alma mater through this tree naming.
