HKBU Hosts Meeting on Globalisation of Chinese Medicine

Event Information

About 600 scholars, research experts and entrepreneurs in Chinese medicine from around the world gather in Hong Kong from 23 to 25 August 2010 to participate in the 9th Meeting of the Consortium for Globalization of Chinese Medicine (CGCM) to discuss the development of Chinese medicine.

Officiating guests at the opening ceremony of the Meeting on 23 August were Prof. Gabriel Matthew Leung, Under Secretary for Food and Health, Food and Health Bureau, HKSAR Government; Prof. Tommy Cheng Yung-chi, Chairman of the Consortium for Globalization of Chinese Medicine; Professor Henry Bronson, Professor of Pharmacology, Yale University, USA; Prof. Albert S C Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, HKBU; Prof. Tsui Lap-chee, Vice-Chancellor and President, The University of Hong Kong; Prof. Paul Tam Kwong-hang, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President, The University of Hong Kong; Dr. Paul Coates, Director, Office of Dietary Supplements, National Institutes of Health, USA; Prof. Pei Gang, President, Tongji University, Shanghai; and Prof. Liu Liang, Dean of the School of Chinese Medicine, HKBU and Convenor of the Meeting.

Organised by the School of Chinese Medicine of HKBU, the Meeting will generate insights and plans on the future development of Chinese medicine worldwide as well as enhance the advancement of Chinese medicine in the areas of education, research, provision of medical services and product development. It will also contribute greatly to the protection of traditional Chinese medicine, which has been regarded as part of Hong Kong's "intangible cultural heritage".

The Consortium, set up and chaired by Prof. Tommy Cheng Yung-chi, is a non-profit organisation with the mission of advancing the field of Chinese herbal medicine through the joint efforts of the academic institutions, the industry and regulatory agencies around the world.
