Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held its 18th Honorary University Fellowship Conferment Ceremony today (21 September). Honorary University Fellowships were conferred upon seven distinguished persons in recognition of their outstanding contributions to a wide variety of areas and their support of society.

This year's Honorary University Fellowship recipients are Dr Sunny Chai Ngai-chiu (查毅超博士), the Hon Kenneth Fok Kai-kong (霍啟剛議員), Ms Leonie Ki Man-fung (紀文鳳女士), Mr Arthur Lee Kin (李健先生), Mr Mongkolchai Mavichien (馬泰炎先生), Professor Alexander B Murphy and Mr Sunny Wong Hak-kun (王克勤先生).

At the Ceremony, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, acknowledged the seven Honorary University Fellowship recipients as well-respected and renowned leaders in their professional fields and in society. They have made challenges look easy, focused on finding solutions, stayed positive and resilient, risen above difficulties and achieved extraordinary success. Their experience and achievements are a valuable source of inspiration for all.

“Our Honorary University Fellows demonstrate the essential qualities required for our leaders, who can lead us to navigate through an uncertain future. They possess extensive cross-sector knowledge, expertise and experience. They have actively used these assets, and adopted a transdisciplinary approach in tackling challenges as well as extending their impact and contributions above and beyond. Their resounding success stories have made history, and will inspire our students and the HKBU community to rise to the challenges of the future,” said Professor Wai.

Speaking on behalf of the Honorary University Fellows, the Hon Kenneth Fok Kai-kong thanked HKBU for conferring Honorary University Fellowships upon them. He said that this year’s recipients come from a diverse background, but have one thing in common. They all proudly represent their fields and strive to make a difference. He also expressed gratitude to everyone at HKBU, who have worked tirelessly over the past decades to nurture young people, teaching them to care, to be creative, to have a global perspective in search of not only academic excellence but to be a better person, a contributor to society.

Drawing from his experience, Mr Fok is glad to have returned to Hong Kong. The decision not only gave him the opportunity to understand Hong Kong and our country better but also to serve Hong Kong and contribute his efforts. He believes Hong Kong has a greater role to play, bigger shoes to fill as we march towards our country’s second 100th year goal.
